Spin-O-Rama

After much agonizing, finished and plyed and washed the Midnight Hour sock hop yarn. A constant battle of wills with the new and shiny Xmas WooLee Winder. Still not sure who the winner is. I really and truly want to love it, and I think I’m getting there. But it does require some tweaking of the spinning–a tighter tension. First batch was too loose, second too tight. Maybe the last bit was just right. And I think I’m doing a great and fine single ply, but then it poofs up, or something. More so than on the traditional flyer. Anyway, some pics of the process.

As has been observed and commented by others, Teyani dyes the fiber in shades–so darker on one end than the other, to maximize stripey goodness.img_1612.jpg

Singles, in my custom made shoebox kate (I’m so proud):

Plyed on the bobbin:

Plyed, floating around, and I finally dug out the camera instructions so I could get a decent, close up, macro shot:

Socks can’t be far behind! And the next agonizing part: to pattern, or not. I do like the plain stockinette.

And then, because what’s a Spin-O-Rama without more spinning, I dug out the best purple fiber ever, which is practically the first fiber I ever bought, sight unseen, from Copper Moose on Ebay. I think this is about 4 ounces, and it’s going to be “Fetching” mitts from Knitty.
